English Lessons
girl swingwhite
A large proportion of your time with Fernthai Volunteer Foundation will be spent passing on your own English education around 4 local primary schools. Inevitably when the children throughout the region reach the age of 16/18 they will leave their families and rural farming communities behind and head to Bangkok in search of better paid work. The Thai culture has its foundations firmly rooted around respect with the younger generation always expected to respect and support their elders throughout society.
As tourism still continues to increase there is a larger demand for bi-lingual Thais, with potential employers willing to pay that little extra. This in turn leads to the children you teach now having better work prospects for the future which in turn helps them better support their families in the future.
As you will quickly find, English education won't just be restircted to schools. There is a real zest to learn English amonst Thais and you will often have many locals popping by for impromptu lessons - both with young and old alike. By also helping the elders with their English they in turn gain the opportunity to confidently bring more tourists into their community thus bolstering their own economy. education1education2
