Religion in Isaan
buddha

Buddhism
gamnan gaoWhilst Fernthai Volunteer Foundation itself bears no affiliation to any religious sect or views, the Isaan communities you will stay with have a deep rooted faith in the Buddhist religion. It is impossible to visit Thailand without at some stage catching a glimpse of the striking orange robed monks and the amazing architectural details of their temples or "Wats" as they are known.
Should you wish, your stay with Fernthai Volunteer Foundation will give you the opportunity to gain a brief insight into the role Buddhism plays amongst its people. Under close supervision and instruction, so as not to offend, you will be able to join alongside your community to witness the large role Buddhism plays in everyday Isaan life.
Our village itself contains its own ornate temple (pictured left) and again, should you wish, you will have the opportunity to visit.

From the early morning rounds of the monks collecting their offerings, or alms, through to dedicated religious holidays you can witness Buddhism all around. The village temple even has a group of eager monks also keen for us to visit and help them out with their English education too. As we say, Fernthai Volunteer Foundation bears no affiliation to any religious sect or views but it is impossible to miss what a large role this particular religion plays in the lives of the people we stay with. You are under no obligation at all to witness any of it, but should you wish, the opportunity to experience it does exist.
